A considerable number of Lutherans migrated from New York in 1723 into the Tulpehocken area. Shortly thereafter migrations began coming directly from Germany including many of the German Reformed. These
German immigrants moved into the unsettled parts of the county to the north. Tohickon Church in Bedminster Township was probably the first.
